How to create a bias conscious workplace
How to create a bias conscious workplace
If you have a brain you have a bias! There are more than 150 kinds of unconscious biases deeply embedded into our wider cultures. It is not surprising that they spill over into our organisations. They can’t be left at the door and therefore they are also implanted in our every day professional interactions. A psychologically secure environment is a key factor in attracting talent and retaining employees which makes it’s more important than ever to create a bias conscious workplace.
Research shows that bias interferes with rational decision making which is a barrier to business success. In this online training to build a bias conscious workplace we will examine:
- Definitions of diversity, inclusion, belonging, psychological safety
- Benefits to your business:
- Innovation and creative thinking
- Increased profitability
- Alignment with your customer base.
- Increased retention
- Higher levels of employee engagement
- Reduced absenteeism and sick leave
- Greater sense of belonging leading to improved employer branding
- Barriers to inclusive workplaces:
- Unconscious bias – why bias exists and a look at the main types of bias
- The main types of discrimination
- Why we can’t leave bias at the workplace door
- Blind spot bias
- Where you find bias in modern organisations
- Every stage and every human interaction
- Brief overview of common workplace situations where bias occurs.
- Steps we can all take to manage those situations.
Participants will gain an awareness of their own biases including their blind spots. They will be in a good place to develop habits to recognise bias when it arises in their daily professional lives. They will learn skills to deal with it in their interactions in a constructive way to make it part of a bias conscious workplace culture.
