Your voice, your weapon

Your voice, your weapon

Do you know that when somebody makes a speech on TV or on stage, only 7% of the audience attention is on the actual message?

The crowd will look at you,  listen to your voice, eventually your smile, your dress or tie. Only after the first basic observations have been made, will they start to listen!

Your Voice – An Expression of Yourself

Your voice can make a difference. Your voice is you. The expression of yourself. [Tweet “Working on your voice can help you to express yourself in a clearer, more powerful way.”] The “seduction” that it implies will improve your presence, as well as managing the stress of talking in public. It’s a tool, it’s a weapon.

Can we talk about a daily war when it comes to  the working world?

Yes we can.

The vocabulary of a company and corporate culture is quite often a warrior one. We even talk about the “battle” for customers and the “war” for talent.  [Tweet “What pressure…And it is even tougher for women.”] As time goes by, increasing numbers of women share work space with men who, not so long ago, had that space to themselves.  A new generation of men is now used to the presence of women at the same working level as they are, but for older generations, old habits die hard. So women, to be professionally successful, have to develop behaviours that leave no room for criticism, sexism, and even humiliation.

Smiling can be bad for your voice

For most of us, as young girls, were told to be sweet and soft. If a boy doesn’t cry, a girl doesn’t shout…she smiles…

[Tweet “Smiling can be a problem…because a smile is a little bit like an excuse:”] “don’t worry I will be a good girl.” As  I was told during my whole childhood: “you are prettier if you smile“, so I smiled. But technically (try it) when you smile while speaking, your voice stays in your cheeks and can’t go down to the resonator of the chest.

And this resonator is the lower one. In general it is most powerful for men, where for women, the powerful registers as are the high notes. This can be a tricky power though, as it can be very tiring to listen to, so women must be careful with high notes. Usually, the sounds in low frequencies call to mind the authority, strength,  self-confidence and… sensuality. Things women are not always comfortable with, often because of their up bringing and personalities.

Your voice is a weapon of massive seduction!

Your voice can be a fantastic tool, and a toy! Working on your voice is funny and exciting. It opens so many possibilities as a way of expressing yourself, more fluently, while managing your rhythm, flow, and melody. It is exciting to work with your voice, to perfect your message, but it’s important for you to control your voice rather than it control you.
