How To Create A Bias Conscious Workplace

How To Create A Bias Conscious Workplace
Awareness of bias is necessary but not sufficient. Research consistently shows that bias awareness training on its own does not change behaviour, what changes behaviour is restructuring the conditions in which decisions are made. This workshop is for organisations that have moved beyond ‘we know bias exists’ and are ready to build environments where bias is systematically managed at every level.
Format
Duration: 3 hours
Location: Online or In Person
Who Should Attend
- Senior leaders and executives who own organisational culture and process design
- HR Directors and People Leaders building DEI strategy
- DEI champions and ERG leads seeking to drive systemic change
- L&D professionals designing bias training programmes for their organisation
What This Workshop Covers

From Awareness to Action. Why Awareness Training Alone Fails
A candid examination of why most unconscious bias training programmes don’t produce lasting change — and what the evidence tells us about what does work. This section sets the stage for a systems-level approach rather than an individual-deficit model.
Mapping Bias in Your Organisational Processes
Bias doesn’t live only in people’s heads; it is embedded in job descriptions, performance criteria, meeting norms, promotion processes, and feedback systems. Participants map their own organisation’s key decision points and identify where bias is most likely to enter and amplify.
Designing Bias-Conscious Processes
Practical techniques for restructuring organisational processes to reduce the impact of unchecked bias: structured decision-making, diverse evaluation panels, standardised criteria, anonymised screening, and the use of data to surface inequitable patterns before they become entrenched.
Culture, Norms, and Accountability
Processes only work if the culture supports them. This section examines how to build accountability for bias-conscious behaviour into leadership, performance management, and everyday team norms — without creating backlash or performative compliance.
Measuring Progress
What gets measured gets managed. Participants learn how to identify the metrics that reveal bias in their organisation — pay gap data, promotion rates by group, attrition patterns, feedback language analysis — and how to use them to drive meaningful change.
