Work-Life Balance & Stress Management Workshop
By: Dorothy Dalton

Work-Life Balance & Stress Management in the Workplace
Work-related stress is not a personal failure; it is the most prevalent psychosocial hazard in European workplaces, and one that organisations have a legal obligation to manage. The conventional response, resilience training, mindfulness apps, and wellness days, addresses symptoms without touching causes. This workshop combines practical individual strategies with an honest examination of the organisational conditions that produce unsustainable pressure.
Format
Duration: 90 minutes – 2 hours
Location: Online or In Person

What This Workshop Covers
Understanding Stress as a Psychosocial Hazard
Stress is not just a personal response; it is a psychosocial risk that organisations are legally required to manage under frameworks including ISO 45003 and the EU Framework Directive. This section gives participants a clear understanding of the organisational conditions that drive workplace stress, high demands, low control, poor support, and why individual coping strategies are insufficient without addressing root causes.
Recognising Burnout: Before It Becomes a Crisis
The difference between stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue. The early warning signs are commonly missed or dismissed. Why burnout tends to affect the most committed employees first, and why organisations should treat early burnout signals as a systemic risk indicator rather than an individual weakness.
Boundaries: The Practical Reality
Setting limits is not the same as being difficult. This section provides practical frameworks for setting and communicating boundaries at work, with managers, colleagues, and clients, in ways that are sustainable, professional, and less likely to trigger professional consequences.
Managing Non-Promotable Tasks
Research shows that women disproportionately carry the administrative, relational, and organisational ‘glue work’ of teams, work that is essential but not rewarded and not career-advancing. This section examines how non-promotable task accumulation contributes to stress and burnout, and what managers can do to redistribute it equitably.
Building Individual Resilience: What Actually Works
Evidence-based strategies for building the psychological resources that allow people to absorb difficulty without breaking. Not mindfulness apps or gratitude journals, but the specific practices of recovery, perspective, and connection that the research on resilience identifies as genuinely effective.
